Requirements
High School Education/GED
No experience required (line work experience or line school education preferred)
Must possess and maintain a valid CDL state driver's license or obtain one within six months
Must pass HireVue - Lineworker pre-employment test
Must pass AEP Pre-Assessment Evaluation
Ability to climb and work at heights
Ability to communicate with employees, customers, and the general public in a courteous and proper manner
Must acquire qualifications necessary to perform duties of the next higher line of progression or vacate current job classification
Availability for 40 hours per week with overtime, callouts including weekends and holidays, and travel (including out of town)
Physical ability for Heavy Work: Exerting 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, 25-50 pounds frequently, and up to 10-20 pounds constantly
Responsibilities
Assist in the installation, rearrangement, maintenance, operation, removal, and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities
Drive and operate line trucks and associated auxiliary equipment
Open and close switches and install grounding devices to lines and equipment
Climb poles or ride in bucket to install or repair wires, arms, insulators, or other hardware on poles
Install and repair underground facilities such as cable, transformers, potheads, and pedestals
Install pole hardware and auxiliary equipment such as transformers, lightning arresters, switches, fuses, and insulators using hand tools and mechanical devices
Cover energized lines with rubber goods to facilitate safe handling of high-voltage lines without interrupting service
Use insulated poles (hot sticks) with mechanically or hydraulically operated tools to perform energized line work up to 138 KV, or rubber gloves and sleeves up to 15 KV
Perform miscellaneous, related, and incidental work in addition to outlined duties
