Requirements

  • High School Education/GED
  • No experience required (line work experience or line school education preferred)
  • Must possess and maintain a valid CDL state driver's license or obtain one within six months
  • Must pass HireVue - Lineworker pre-employment test
  • Must pass AEP Pre-Assessment Evaluation
  • Ability to climb and work at heights
  • Ability to communicate with employees, customers, and the general public in a courteous and proper manner
  • Must acquire qualifications necessary to perform duties of the next higher line of progression or vacate current job classification
  • Availability for 40 hours per week with overtime, callouts including weekends and holidays, and travel (including out of town)
  • Physical ability for Heavy Work: Exerting 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, 25-50 pounds frequently, and up to 10-20 pounds constantly

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the installation, rearrangement, maintenance, operation, removal, and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities
  • Drive and operate line trucks and associated auxiliary equipment
  • Open and close switches and install grounding devices to lines and equipment
  • Climb poles or ride in bucket to install or repair wires, arms, insulators, or other hardware on poles
  • Install and repair underground facilities such as cable, transformers, potheads, and pedestals
  • Install pole hardware and auxiliary equipment such as transformers, lightning arresters, switches, fuses, and insulators using hand tools and mechanical devices
  • Cover energized lines with rubber goods to facilitate safe handling of high-voltage lines without interrupting service
  • Use insulated poles (hot sticks) with mechanically or hydraulically operated tools to perform energized line work up to 138 KV, or rubber gloves and sleeves up to 15 KV
  • Perform miscellaneous, related, and incidental work in addition to outlined duties
