Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in earned media and media relations
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Creative, outside-of-the-box thinker, storyteller, and leader who lives and breathes media and is an avid consumer of media in all forms
  • Constant sense of what’s trending in the news and finger on culturally relevant conversations among consumers
  • Exceptional understanding of the consumer/lifestyle media landscape and top stories in the news
  • Existing network of media contacts, especially in consumer/lifestyle audiences across print, digital, emerging media, and broadcast from top-tier outlets
  • Ability to craft storylines and themes reporters will view as newsworthy
  • Ability to create integrated earned media strategies that resonate across platforms and diverse media channels
  • Experience leading media relations campaigns
  • Audience-centric mindset with ability to formulate newsworthy media strategies that advance clients’ businesses
  • Confidence to counsel executives and C-Suite on effective earned media strategies
  • Solid working knowledge of social/digital platforms and management of visual assets, with familiarity of production and video as a storytelling medium
  • Strong networking and writing skills
  • Capable speaker who is organized, confident, and professional
  • Ability to effectively manage projects, budgets, delegate work, oversee short-term and long-term/complex assignments
  • Ability to judge, edit work of junior team members, manage direct reports, and support their career development
  • Prior experience in an agency environment (preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to digest and understand a wide variety of accounts (business, products, markets, personnel, influencers) and translate into newsworthy storylines and themes (preferred)
  • Established relationships with reporters across verticals and media outlets with success securing impactful media from top-tier outlets in print, online, broadcast, podcasts, video, and social (preferred)
  • Strong client counselor with proven ability to influence/educate clients on earned media's role in communications/marketing, what reporters/media seek, and articulate current media landscape (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Work in collaboration with account teams and specialists (creative, planning, analytics, digital, creator marketing) on earned media strategy and execution for clients
  • Help clients find the right reporter for their story at the right time through newsworthy strategies
  • Counsel executives and C-Suite on effective earned media strategies
  • Manage projects and budgets
  • Delegate work effectively and oversee a large volume of short-term and longer-term/complex assignments on accounts
  • Judge and edit work of junior team members
  • Manage direct report(s) and support their career development
