Requirements

  • Ability to work with heavy duty power equipment and hand tools
  • Capability to load tools and materials into Company vehicles with manual gearshift/transmission
  • Ability to drive or ride in vehicles, including those with three or more axles or towing 6,000 pounds or more
  • Obtain Class A Driver's License (including passing Federal DOT Medical Examination); California Class A within first six months of hire
  • Participate in federally mandated drug and alcohol testing for commercial vehicle operation (GCWR 26,001+ lbs, etc.)
  • Perform heavy physical labor and lifting
  • Review and analyze complex schematic drawings
  • Follow standards and practices while meeting service deadlines
  • Meet specific quality, production, and safety standards
  • Perform repetitive tasks like manually digging poles/holes
  • Climb non-stepped poles using climbers
  • Work with color-coded wires, testing equipment, and gas detection in manholes

Responsibilities

  • Work in construction and repair of outside plant cable facilities, conduit, and pole lines
  • Drive or ride to work locations
  • Receive verbal/written work orders and instructions from supervisor
  • Perform various types of construction operations
  • Perform housekeeping duties for Company vehicles and work locations
  • Communicate and coordinate with other work groups for testing and information
  • Perform preventative maintenance on tools, equipment, and motor vehicles
  • Respond to customer inquiries about products and work operations
  • Use hand tools to connect wires, attach/detach hardware to cables
  • Use testing equipment to check for gas and clean manholes
  • Load/unload, move, or rearrange heavy tools, equipment, and cable
  • Be the Company's and customer's advocate
  • Perform daily time reporting tasks
