Requirements

  • Preferred field(s) of study: Environmental Science, Public Policy, Real Estate, Urban Affairs, Urban Planning or related field
  • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program; recent graduates are also encouraged to apply
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for the mission of NYCEDC
  • Demonstrated written, verbal, and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated experience in using database and presentation tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to multi-task and manage deadlines
  • Ability to work in collaborative, cross-functional teams
  • Ability to work full-time, Monday-Friday 9AM-5PM and complete the entirety of the 10-week program

Responsibilities

  • Perform site due diligence, including zoning analysis and development potential scenario planning
  • Support in project management, including drafting and review of environmental review and land use related documents, and creating maps and visuals to communicate technical planning information
  • Participate in discussions with interagency partners on land use and environmental review processes and issues
  • Assist in the Land Use Department’s efforts to synthesize and communicate city planning processes to internal stakeholders through creation of background documents and presentations
  • Assist in the Land Use Department’s efforts to document land use and environmental review history and issues for EDC assets (e.g. Hunts Point Food Distribution Center, Sunset Park)
  • Inventory and track environmental review mitigation requirements for City projects
  • Gain exposure to complex, interdisciplinary planning projects and initiatives
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Land Use Department
