Requirements

  • Hands-on experience with substation layout, equipment selection, protection and control systems, and integration with transmission and distribution systems
  • Experience with high-voltage substation projects ranging from 69kV to 500kV
  • Ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines, including civil, structural, and protection engineering
  • Knowledge of NESC, IEEE, ANSI, IEC, and utility standards
  • Willingness to work mostly onsite in locations such as Raleigh, NC; Charlotte, NC; Owings Mills, MD; Summerville, SC; Katy, TX; or Baton Rouge, LA (relocation assistance available)

Responsibilities

  • Develop substation physical and electrical designs, including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, general arrangements, grounding, conduit, and control schematics
  • Prepare design drawings, technical specifications, and bill of materials for new and retrofit substation projects
  • Conduct equipment selection and specify transformers, circuit breakers, switches, buswork, relays, and other substation components
  • Collaborate with Protection & Control Engineers to integrate relaying and communication systems
  • Perform load flow, short circuit, and grounding studies as needed
  • Ensure all engineering deliverables meet NESC, IEEE, ANSI, IEC, and utility standards
  • Coordinate with internal design teams, utilities, and contractors to ensure technical accuracy and constructability
  • Participate in site visits to support design verification, construction, and commissioning
  • Provide technical support during procurement, installation, and testing phases
  • Maintain project schedules, budgets, and documentation per client and company requirements
