Requirements

Supervision of LPNs and Behavioral Health Technicians (may provide supervision to Registered Nurses)

Capability to arrange medical appointments, manage medical emergencies (e.g., injuries, drug reactions), and monitor special dietary needs
Experience conferring with physicians, advocating for medical services, and consulting with pharmacies
Proficiency in medication management: reviewing requirements, educating clients/guardians, monitoring self-administration compliance, overseeing therapeutic injections, monitoring lab levels and side-effects, coordinating with physicians/pharmacies/families
Ability to work with PFH associates to ensure appropriate client placement in residential/medical detoxification settings
Skills in scheduling Behavioral Health Technicians, monitoring coverage/overtime per policy/contractual standards
Responsibility for interviewing, hiring, training new Behavioral Health Technician staff/nurses under Program Director supervision
Monitoring staff training (36 hours every two years via Relias Learning), developing individualized training plans, facilitating weekly supervision meetings, and maintaining documentation per CARF/DMH/company regulations
Reviewing documentation including authorizations, Doctor’s Notes, MARs, physician orders, and treatment modifications requiring patient education

Responsibilities

Provide nursing services to patients in behavioral health and/or substance use disorder treatment to ensure a safe and therapeutic environment
Evaluate client’s physical condition and need for detoxification services
Provide oversight to LPNs/BHTs for recording initial patient medical histories, taking vital signs, and monitoring health during detoxification
Complete disease prevention, risk reduction, and reproductive health education
Arrange medical appointments for conditions during treatment and manage medical emergencies (e.g., accidental injuries, drug reactions)
Confer with physicians as necessary or advocate for medical services through managed care organizations
Arrange or monitor special dietary needs for medical conditions
Review medication requirements with clients/patients/guardians, educate on benefits of prescribed medications
Monitor medication self-administration compliance per DMH & CARF standards (review MARs, document errors/occurrences, implement corrective action)
Work with PFH associates to ensure residential/medical detoxification clients are appropriate for the environment
Consult with physicians/pharmacies to confirm prescribed medications
Oversee therapeutic injection of medication (subcutaneous or intramuscular)
Monitor lab levels, including consultation with physicians, clients, and clinical staff
Coordinate medication needs with physicians, pharmacies, clients, and families
Monitor medication side-effects using standardized evaluations
Monitor physician orders for treatment modifications requiring patient education
Review documentation including appropriate authorizations and ensure Doctor’s Notes are complete/accurate
Schedule Behavioral Health Technicians per policy/procedures under Program Director supervision, assure coverage per contractual standards, monitor/manage overtime
Interview, hire, and train new Behavioral Health Technician staff/nurses under Program Director supervision
Monitor staff for required 36 hours of training every two years (including Relias Learning)
