Requirements

  • Adhere to FMCNA Compliance Program, including regulatory and FMS policy requirements
  • Function under direct supervision of a licensed nurse (RN-P)
  • Complete required education based on placement duration:
  • Less than 3 months: eLearning (Infection Control, Intro to Basic Dialysis, Intro to Water self-study, Blood Glucose Monitoring); PREP Classes (Infection Control, Evaluating and Monitoring the Patient, Foot checks, water class)
  • 3-6 months: Additional PREP Classes (Basic Access, Emergency Preparedness, Safety, Complications, Machine Day)
  • Receive training in specific functional areas before performing duties
  • Meet physical demands: desk/PC work, patient interaction, travel, heavy lifting/moving patients, prolonged standing, exposure to infectious diseases

Responsibilities

  • Support FMCNA’s mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy
  • Provide safe and effective dialysis therapy as part of the hemodialysis health care team
  • Setup and operate hemodialysis machines
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and clean working environment
  • Support Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and CQI activities, including patient satisfaction and process improvements
  • For placements <3 months (after training, under RN-P supervision): Escort patients to/from scale, assist with washing access, vital signs/weight, attend huddles, surface disinfection, hand crank in emergency, lab preparation, internal machine disinfection, check residual bleach, mix bleach water, check blood sugars, administer ONSP per order, pre-initiation safety check, RN assessment/POC with preceptor, attend care plan/QAI/POC meetings, foot checks/access assessment with preceptor, obtain pH/conductivity, observe Home Therapies/access center
  • For placements 3-6 months (after training, under RN-P supervision): Machine setup/teardown, post-treatment emptying, water checks, draw blood cultures/labs, lead daily huddle, initiate/terminate treatment on mature fistula/graft (preceptor cannulates), medication administration (heparin, lidocaine, NS), assist on QAI project, preparation of dialysate
  • Participate in crash cart/AED/refrigerator checks, medication review with preceptor
