Requirements

  • BS in an engineering degree or higher
  • 8+ years of experience in requirements development and test design of aircraft systems or other complex, safety-critical systems
  • Experience in developing and deploying aviation/aerospace systems through production
  • Demonstrated experience leading and owning complete system architecture from ideation through implementation
  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering principles and tools (e.g., Cameo)
  • Experience with FAA Type Certification or Technical Standards Order (TSO) Authorizations
  • Highly motivated, self-starting individual with a broad set of skills and never afraid of facing complex technical challenges
  • Solution-oriented individual with a strong analytical mindset
  • Strong communication skills and ability to tailor communications to suit the audience
  • Ability to adapt quickly or propose changes needed to achieve early results in a timely fashion

  • MS or PhD in aerospace (or related field) engineering degree
  • Experience with TCAS II (DO-185B), ADS-B (DO-260C and DO-282C), Mode S (DO-181F), GPWS (DO-161A), TAWS (DO-367), GCAS, Aeronautical Databases (DO-200, DO-276), DAA (DO-365), or DAA Radars (DO-366)
  • Experience with FAA software and hardware certification standards (DO-178C, DO-330, DO-254, DO-160)
  • Direct experience with system development lifecycle processes (ARP-4754A) and system safety analysis (ARP-4761)

Responsibilities

  • Lead the definition, development, and management of system architecture and system models through complete product life cycle, with an emphasis on onboard aircraft functions to automatically detect and avoid other airspace users and terrain
  • Own the system-level requirements for CD&R functions, leading their decomposition, allocation, and validation
  • Execute trade studies that inform system design, especially to appropriately allocate risk and complexity
  • Engage external vendors in new traffic avoidance and terrain avoidance product concepts
  • Define and own test and evaluation strategies to examine where the system or vendor products need to improve
  • Work with other system engineers to drive architectural consistency and best practices
  • Interface with regulatory bodies and internal program leadership on key technical decisions
  • Define data analysis requirements and success criteria for system verification and validation
