This role involves evolving Firefox for Android, an open-source browser with over 100 million downloads. The Staff Android Engineer will shape architecture, mentor engineers, and drive technical direction for a product that embodies Mozilla's values of openness, innovation, and privacy. The goal is to build a healthier internet for everyone.

Responsibilities

  • Design, debug, build, and ship medium to large-scale Android solutions that promote a healthy and inclusive internet.
  • Drive engineering decisions and feature development with a clear focus on delivering user value.
  • Become a member of a hardworking, diverse, and geographically distributed team responsible for Firefox mobile applications and open-source Android components.
  • Collaborate closely with partners to understand, define, clarify scope, solidify requirements, and drive initiatives.
  • Effectively communicate the engineering development perspective and discuss sophisticated topics with technical and non-technical team members.
  • Define and uphold standards for quality through constructive code reviews, bug fixing, testing, and coding practices.
  • Work closely with specialist Gecko teams to bring browser functionality to Android.
  • Address problems spanning all levels from the Java API layer, to JavaScript and into the C++ browser engine.
  • Provide solutions and feedback to Mozilla's open-source community to improve Android solutions and support Mozilla's manifesto.

Requirements

  • Many years of experience building complex applications for a broad and diverse user base using Java, Kotlin, and/or C++.
  • Experience resolving problems, signaling risk, fostering change, and facilitating collaborative decision-making.
  • Passion for building excellent products and a sense of ownership from design to bug fixing.
  • Proficiency in modern programming practices (code review, unit testing, automation).
  • Rust programming experience and knowledge is a plus.
  • Ability to lead other developers and work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment to deliver well-designed, reusable, and high-quality code on time.
  • Proactive in asking questions and proposing new insights for positive impact.
  • Desire to work with, learn, and grow with an outstanding group of people.
