Requirements

Candidates should have 5+ years of professional experience, preferably in fast-paced early- or mid-stage startups. They must have designed and implemented distributed systems for scalability and reliability, with proficiency in languages such as Ruby on Rails, Python, or Go. Experience working with Stripe or similar billing systems is required, along with a history of contributing to or leading migration efforts in evolving codebases. Experience partnering with cross-functional teams to take features from concept to launch and mentoring other engineers is also necessary. Bonus points for experience with microservices/service-oriented architectures and full-stack development using React.js.

Responsibilities

The Staff Software Engineer will partner with Product and Design to scope, design, and deliver new features in the Education product line. They will architect, refine, and scale backend systems, introducing new technologies and patterns to strengthen the backend architecture. This role involves owning and evolving Brightwheel’s eCommerce systems and integrations to deliver curriculum to teachers and students. The engineer will collaborate across functions to align technology decisions with business goals and customer needs, and contribute to the technical direction for the team by leading with high-quality code and thoughtful reviews.
