Requirements
Candidates should possess at least 8 years of industry experience with backend development, demonstrating a proven ability to design clean, effective internal APIs and services. Strong proficiency in TypeScript, GraphQL, and MongoDB is required, along with experience in building both early-stage (0 to 1) and scaling (1 to 10) systems with strong execution skills. Demonstrated leadership of significant technical projects from inception through delivery is essential, as is a pragmatic approach to problem-solving, including the ability to assess when to build versus buy and identify true customer needs. Experience applying AI in products, or a strong interest in exploring this space, is also desired.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Backend Software Engineer at Vanta, you will design APIs from first principles, ensuring they are intuitive and usable by both code and AI agents. You will make thoughtful trade-offs that balance business objectives, user experience, and long-term technical sustainability, while mentoring and guiding fellow engineers, promoting best practices across the team. You will lead initiatives that strengthen operational excellence and raise the bar on engineering quality across the organization, and drive complex projects across Vanta’s technical stack, contributing to the scaling of the company’s infrastructure and enabling its growth. You will also play a key role in the GRC Policies team, which sits at the heart of Vanta’s product, powering the creation, management, and tracking of compliance policies throughout their lifecycle, incorporating AI to enhance policy workflows and elevate customer compliance programs.
