Requirements

Candidates must have a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with at least 5 years of relevant experience. A strong understanding of first-principles physics in engineering disciplines such as heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics is required. Experience in 2D/3D CAD piping and thermal system design, as well as extensive experience taking designs from concept through production, is essential. Familiarity with mechanical and structural design, along with hands-on experience assembling mechanical components, is also necessary. Preferred qualifications include an advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, experience with gas and/or water piping, FMEA, and thermal FEA and fluid analysis (CFD).

Responsibilities

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will design and validate air and liquid cooling technologies for the thermal management of electrolyzer stacks and electrical components. They will optimize cooling solutions for performance, cost, and reliability, review process flow diagrams, and create P&IDs and mechanical designs. The role involves performing analysis to validate fluid and thermal performance and safety of designs, facilitating the selection of optimal hardware components, and collaborating with power systems and product teams for system integration. Additionally, the engineer will assess failure modes, develop test plans, lead thermal and fluid systems lab tests, create and maintain Balance of Plant cost/Bill of Materials, and oversee the assembly and setup of prototypes and production units.
