Requirements

  • Minimum 8–12 years of relevant technical experience in Mechanical Engineering, including at least 5 years developing for production rotating electrical machines, electronics equipment packaging solutions, and/or mechanical devices for industrial and aerospace applications
  • Experience developing requirements specifications for mechanical subsystems according to MIL-STD 961D standard or equivalent
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks for mechanical modeling
  • Proficiency with ANSYS for structural and fatigue analysis
  • Proficiency with ANSYS Icepack for thermal analysis
  • Extensive experience with SolidWorks and designing electrical rotating machines for high-performance applications
  • Extensive experience with thermal management tradeoffs, solutions, and materials properties
  • Experience with bonding techniques for extreme environmental conditions using different adhesives
  • Experience with manufacturing methodologies of electrical machines
  • Experience creating and maintaining product document tree
  • Experience creating and maintaining products bill of materials (BOM)
  • Experience with test and measurement techniques, such as torque transducer calibration and instrumentation
  • MS degree in Mechanical Engineering (preferred)
  • Recognition by a reputable international engineering society such as ASME at senior membership level or higher (desired)
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-810 or DO-160 (desired)
  • Full understanding and knowledge of engineering principles in the technical discipline, with ability to work independently
  • Effective communication skills to articulate concepts to technical and non-technical staff
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with small teams
  • Strong initiative, ownership, problem-solving, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Focus on teamwork and collaboration

Responsibilities

  • Lead or support mechanical design, testing, and production of electrical machines
  • Lead or support design of electronics packaging for high altitude aerospace applications
  • Lead or support mechanical packaging development for electronic equipment with stringent environmental requirements (mass, volume, thermal, vibration)
  • Manage mid-size development projects outsourced to sub-contractors (systems, equipment, or components)
  • Lead or support thermal, structural, dynamic, and fluid flow analysis efforts for electronics equipment
  • Lead testing and data collection in the laboratory and field
  • Model mechanical devices and select proper materials
  • Perform stress and fatigue analysis
  • Perform thermal analysis and select bonding materials
  • Develop mechanical drawings and specify dimensional tolerances
  • Develop assembly instructions and test procedures
  • Develop test plans and test procedures to verify designs
  • Work on complex issues requiring in-depth knowledge of variable factors
  • Execute team assignments effectively, following schedules, milestones, and resources; may coordinate activities of other personnel (Team Lead)
  • Other duties as assigned
