Requirements

  • BSc in Occupational Health and Safety or related field
  • Professional Designation: Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
  • Minimum 5 years of EHS experience in Chemical, manufacturing, or pharmaceutical industry
  • Minimum 3 years of Industrial Hygiene training/experience
  • Previous experience conducting presentations/training for various levels within an organization
  • Client or project management experience
  • Able to work in fast-paced friendly environment
  • High integrity for dealing with confidential information
  • Demonstrated professionalism
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
  • Proficiency with English Language
  • Equivalency: Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered
  • Able to lift 40 lbs. without assistance
  • Adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Safety Standards
  • Compliance with Cleanroom requirements (no hair products, jewelry, makeup, nail polish, perfume, exposed piercings, facial hair; no contact lens, prescriptive glasses provided)
  • Ability to work in Laboratory Setting, Office, with PPE (safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs), at heights
  • Ability to perform alternating or rotating shift work as required

Responsibilities

  • Maintain safe working environment and report potential hazards
  • Lead creation and integration of EHS programs and management systems
  • Collaborate with internal partners and site leadership to gain support and ensure compliance
  • Lead Industrial Hygiene (IH) Program: develop IH sampling plans/strategies, Occupational Exposure Limits (OELs), IH analytical methods; conduct IH assessments; evaluate technologies for containment improvement
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to evaluate/enhance containment of existing processes
  • Lead Designated Substances Program
  • Lead Industrial & Office Ergonomics program
  • Lead Respiratory Protection Program and Fit Testing, including PAPR maintenance/testing
  • Conduct Combustible Dust Hazard Assessment and Management
  • Support Health and Safety: incident investigations, JHSC audit finding closures, risk assessments
  • Develop and conduct EHS training: orientation, monthly safety talks, department-specific training
  • Conduct equipment reviews
  • Act as advisor/resource to Joint Health and Safety Committee
  • Perform New Project Risk Assessments
  • Attend Kick-Off Meetings and ongoing Project Meetings
  • Evaluate containment/industrial hygiene for new projects
  • Develop potent compound active-specific procedures and training
  • Liaise with Project Managers, Process Engineers, and Clients
  • Provide back-up/support to other EHS team members and Health Centre
  • Lead/participate in EHS audits/investigations with regulatory bodies, Clients, Corporate representatives
  • Implement Global EHS Standards and complete regulatory/corporate reporting
  • Provide guidance/support to EHS team, internal/external clients on EHS matters; support operations, maintenance, Pharmaceutical Development Services (PDS)
  • Establish standard procedures for site, exchange expertise with other sites, ensure compliance with EHS regulations/practices
  • Follow all Environmental Health & Safety Policies/Procedures; work collaboratively with team; comply with Patheon quality systems SOPs
