Requirements

  • Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) license from the licensing board active in the state of practice (Upon Hire)
  • Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds
  • Knowledge of age-specific factors for patients from infant through adult
  • Preferred: Bachelor's in Speech Language Pathology and Communication Disorders

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction and supervision of a Speech/Language Pathologist, assist in supplementing, enhancing, and extending speech/language therapy services, including direct activities with patients to develop pre-language/language skills, oral-motor control, vocalization, and use of assistive technology devices
  • Provide direct patient care for speech language, voice, fluency, and hearing to patients
  • Demonstrate knowledge of age-specific factors and perform satisfactorily related to patient’s age (infant through adult)
  • Document patient progress towards meeting established treatment objectives
  • Provide direct therapy services to patients using various functional settings and strategies
  • Plan therapy within the patient’s individual physical, emotional, and intellectual capabilities
  • Communicate effectively with patient, family, physician, and other disciplinary team members regarding patient status, progress, and needs
  • Enhance professional growth through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, workshops, etc
  • Participate in program development of the department
  • Perform duties of receptionist and scheduler: greet patients and visitors, answer telephone calls promptly and courteously
  • Assist with cleaning and organization of therapy clinic space
  • Assist in monitoring and managing therapist and patient schedules, completed and missing documentation/therapy charges, and supplies
