3.5 preferred GPA, with a 3.0 minimum GPA for consideration
Proven leadership skills through work experience (prior internship/co-ops are a plus), campus involvement, or extracurricular activities
Superior communication, analysis, planning, and organizing skills
Self-motivated, as the nature of the internship may have virtual aspects or self-directed projects
Current students in a bachelor’s degree program in a wide range of majors are encouraged to apply, especially those majoring in Insurance & Risk Management, Pre-law and paralegal studies
Attention to detail including experience working
Responsibilities
Participating in special projects within the claims and operations groups as assigned
Learning about claim handling assignments within SHS including: initial coverage analysis, first contact, investigation, resolution strategy, technical letter writing, and negotiation
Working with the operations team to enter new loss information, update the litigation database, and perform other operations team functions
Learning and performing functions utilizing the various claims systems, programs, and databases
Various reading assignments, self-study courses, and case studies on a diverse range of topics intended to build a foundation of claims and general insurance knowledge
Participating in seminars and workshops provided by Claims College and Great American University
Networking: participating in activities with other interns, employees, and leaders throughout the organization, attending lunch-and-learns, and participating in the organization-wide Claim Intern Program
