Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Sort and segregate recoverable materials (e.g., aluminum, plastic, glass, paper, etc.) from incoming waste, or remove non-recyclable materials
  • Deposit recoverable material safely and efficiently into appropriate chute
  • Assist other sorters on an as-needed basis with heavy or bulky items
  • Communicate with equipment operators regarding incoming loads of special waste or other loads that require special attention
  • Increase production of the sort line by minimizing down time and providing training to sorters on the line
  • Ensure compliance with all safety rules regarding the sort line; including stopping the conveyor belt in emergency situations
  • Inspect and remove jams on the sort line
  • Clean the automated sorting equipment on a daily basis, including screens, belly pans, and under the system, in addition to other light maintenance duties
  • Maintain cleanliness of facility during shift and perform end of shift cleaning
  • Assist Maintenance Technicians during system repairs, as assigned
  • Distinguish different types of recyclables (e.g., various types of plastic-PETE, HDPE; glass by color; aluminum from tin or bi-metal; paper-5 to 6 grads)
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned
