Software Engineering Manager / Team Lead - LPR Integrations

Position Overview

Flock Safety is seeking a skilled and motivated Software Engineering Manager / Team Lead to join our LPR (Licence Plate Reader) Integrations team. This role is crucial for supporting the rapid expansion of our services as we forge new partnerships and develop new integrations. The team focuses on integrating various real-time data sources across web, mobile, and API platforms, including public safety systems like Computer-Assisted-Dispatch (CAD), 911 live calls, Automated Vehicle Locator (AVL), vehicle hotlists, and other alerts. You will also contribute to our developer hub by expanding our API offerings.

Requirements

• Proven Leadership: Strong leadership skills with experience managing teams of 4-7 highly capable engineers.
• Coaching & Development: Ability to coach direct reports to foster a highly productive team and support individual career growth.
• Technical Acumen: A passion for writing code and extensive hands-on coding experience.
• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in customer-facing interactions.
• Project Management: Ability to organize, track, and deliver multiple projects concurrently.
• System Design: Experience with microservice-oriented architecture and designing systems at scale, handling over 1 billion real-time data points daily.
• Problem Solving: Motivated by tackling complex, unknown problems and developing strategic plans.
• SQL Proficiency: Expertise in writing, optimizing, and troubleshooting complex SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and integration.
• Database Knowledge: Proficiency with relational database systems (especially PostgreSQL) and a strong understanding of database design principles.
• Data Integration: Experience integrating and syncing data between disparate systems, including resolving data format inconsistencies.
• Networking Fundamentals: Understanding of on-premise networks, including firewalls, VPNs, and network configurations, to ensure seamless system communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of software engineers on the LPR Integrations team.
• Drive the technical direction and execution for integrating diverse data sources into Flock's platform.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and deliver new integrations and features.
• Contribute to the development and expansion of our API developer hub.
• Ensure the scalability, reliability, and performance of our integration systems.
• Actively participate in code reviews and architectural discussions.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence within the team.
