Software Engineer

Company: tastytrade Location: Chicago, IL - Hybrid (3 days/week in office)

Position Overview

As a Software Engineer at tastytrade, you will play a key role in modifying existing systems, taking ownership of current systems, and undertaking greenfield projects. You will also be responsible for troubleshooting issues as they arise. Our engineers work with a variety of tools including Java, JavaScript, and Ruby, with a focus on expanding and improving our product suite through front-end development.

Responsibilities

• Work on tastytrade's front-end trading client applications using Svelte, with experience in other modern front-end JavaScript frameworks being valuable.
• Contribute to the Java-based core front-end trading logic library; prior Java experience is beneficial but not required.
• Transform business requirements and technical direction into production-quality code.
• Collaborate with UX and Product teams to improve customer workflows and overall user experience.
• Deliver concise, constructive peer reviews covering codecraft, implementation quality, and business domain correctness for junior engineers.
• Write comprehensive tests for your code.
• Support application development with necessary infrastructure work, coordinating with the infrastructure team as needed.

Requirements

• The ability to learn quickly in areas in which you don't already have deep expertise.
• Experience in modern web development (JavaScript / Typescript, HTML, and CSS) and the ability/willingness to deploy and manage production applications.
• The ability to jump into a brand-new framework or language and quickly become productive in it.
• Confidence in your ability to write tests and quickly deliver stable and performant software.
• 2+ years of professional experience working as a software engineer on a team.
• A keen eye for user experience and design.

Salary Range

• Level I: $135,000
• Level II: $146,750
• Level III: $158,650

The actual salary offered will be based on the candidate's level of experience and qualifications.
