Position Overview

The Messaging Tribe at LivePerson builds the core infrastructure powering billions of real-time conversations between consumers and brands. Our teams own mission-critical services such as agent matching, and conversation lifecycle management. As an Software Development Engineer, you’ll contribute to the design and development of scalable backend systems using Java, Kafka, Kubernetes, and GCP. This is a hands-on engineering role where you’ll collaborate across teams, solve complex problems at scale, and help drive our migration to a cloud-native, stateless architecture.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Improve and optimize existing functionality of the messaging platform.
  • Implement new features using Java and Spring.
  • Assist in migrating the service to cloud-native solutions.
  • Use the latest technologies to solve unique problems for our customers at scale.
  • Work and collaborate with great engineers with experience in varieties of fields.
  • Maintain >99.999% uptime of mission-critical messaging service.
  • Contribute to the team’s on-call rotation and improve rapid-response coverage.

Requirements

Here are some of the things you'll bring:

  • Languages & Frameworks: Java 8/11/17, Spring
  • Databases & Caching: Couch base, Redis, Elasticsearch, Hadoop
  • Messaging Queues: Apache Kafka
  • Containerization & Orchestration: Kubernetes, Docker, Puppet
  • Cloud & Infrastructure: GCP, AWS, and On-Premises infrastructure (Hybrid)
  • CI/CD: TeamCity, Jenkins
  • DevOps & Security: Vault, Terraform, OAuth2.0 Provider, and many more

What You Need for Success

  • 3+ years of backend development experience.
  • Solid understanding and knowledge of Java, concepts of multithreading, OO concepts, and design patterns.
  • Experience with GCP is an advantage.
  • Experience building REST APIs, preferably with Java.
  • Experience with websockets is an advantage.
  • Experience with mission-critical distributed microservices architecture.
  • Willingness to own all stages of the development process: from design and implementation to deployment and maintenance.
  • Ability to work quickly while maintaining strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to deal well with ambiguous/undefined problems.
  • Ability to effectively articulate and drive technical solutions to various challenges.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Being a team player.
  • Experience with globally distributed teams in multiple time zones is a plus.
