Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Business, Economics, Law, Computer Science or other related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Experience in commercial credit analysis or small business underwriting
  • Knowledge of financial institution policies and procedures
  • Good sales, organizational, communication, and public relations skills, particularly in working with documentation that requires special or confidential handling
  • Proficient with the Bank’s loan application processing system and Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
  • Ability to work independently and accurately in a deadline-driven environment
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations relating to small business lending, including SBA Express program policies and procedures

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite QuickStep small business loan requests and ensure booked requests meet the Bank's lending policies and procedures, with loans performing within expected loss and delinquency parameters
  • Review performance of existing QuickStep credits and make recommendations to restructure problem credits
  • Analyze, review, and approve/decline small business loan requests in areas such as lines of credit, auto/equipment loans, commercial real estate loans, and commercial credit cards
  • Assemble, collect, and verify the accuracy of documentation needed for booking sound and safe loans
  • Develop proficiency in using the loan origination application processing system
  • Recommend terms and conditions of loans that best fit the customer and the bank
  • Offer cross-sell opportunities to applicants that demonstrate the financial capacity to service the debt
  • Contribute to the Bank's profitability by making small business loans that meet Bank standards for economic value and safety
  • Contribute to the Bank's favorable image in the community by carrying out loan activities in a manner promoting customer goodwill
  • Learn to analyze financial statements, perform tax analysis, and determine cash flows
  • Provide assistance to other underwriters and support consumer underwriting activities as needed
  • Comply with policies, procedures, security requirements, and government regulations
