Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program (or master’s/PhD with reduced experience)
For Engineer Sr: Typically 6+ years of related engineering experience (or 4+ years with master’s/PhD)
For Engineer Principal: Typically 8+ years of related engineering experience (or 6+ years with master’s/PhD)
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico (required for Principal, unless waived by EVP)
Knowledge of civil site engineering principles, including site grading, stormwater management, drainage design/analysis, roadway design, retaining walls, erosion and sediment control, permitting, and surveying
Knowledge and/or experience using AutoCAD and Civil 3D software (strongly preferred)
Proven ability to assess and recommend civil engineering solutions, collaborating with non-civil engineers and stakeholders considering safety, performance, cost, constructability, risk, and liability
Leadership skills
Willingness to travel (~10%) to field sites (generally within 5-hour driving distance) for diagnosing civil engineering issues related to electric transmission lines and substations
Availability for Monday-Friday, 8 hours/day, with some approved overtime
Responsibilities
Perform civil site engineering, land development, stormwater management design, and roadway design for Electric Substation, Transmission Line, and Telecommunications projects across AEP’s 11-state footprint
Assess and recommend best-case civil engineering solutions
Collaborate with higher-level non-civil engineers and project stakeholders to solve civil engineering challenges
Travel to field sites to diagnose civil engineering issues related to electric transmission lines and substations
