The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to learn quickly and identify efficiency needs within a tax department. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, self-motivation, initiative, teamwork, a positive attitude, and strong time management skills are essential. Experience with tax software updates, tax rule determination, and automation processes is required, particularly with Alteryx and other AI tools. Familiarity with motor fuel tax, sales tax, income tax reporting, and the fuel supply chain and tax compliance processes is highly desirable. Knowledge of excise tax filings, fuel movement reporting, internal controls, and tax and accounting software like Avalara, Right Angle, and Oracle is also beneficial.
The Senior Tax Analyst will assist with and develop new tax automation workflows using Alteryx and other AI tools, focusing on designing, building, and maintaining automation for excise tax return preparation, reporting, and filings. This role involves collaborating with tax and accounting teams to identify automation opportunities, reconciling and updating Alteryx workflows based on tax rule changes, and assisting with tax rate updates and customer invoices. The analyst will also support tax-related issues within accounting software, maintain tools for tax data reconciliation, assist with Avalara tax return scenario determinations, manage registrations and renewals, interact with stakeholders to resolve tax setup changes, research federal and state excise tax matters, assist with exchange tax invoice creation, support fuel tax related internal control compliance, and stay current on relevant statutory, regulatory, and technology changes to implement best practices and process improvements.
