Position Overview

Waabi is an AI company dedicated to building the next generation of self-driving technology. Founded by AI pioneer Raquel Urtasun, Waabi leverages a world-class team and an innovative approach to AI to safely drive in the real world, accelerating the commercialization of self-driving. Backed by top-tier investors, Waabi is rapidly expanding with offices in Toronto, San Francisco, and Dallas. We are seeking diverse, innovative, and collaborative candidates eager to make a positive global impact.

As a Software Engineer in Sensor Simulation, you will be instrumental in creating the next generation of multi-sensor rendering software for autonomous driving. You will collaborate with renowned scientists and engineers to develop innovative, practical, and scalable rendering and content creation solutions for self-driving technology. We foster an environment that values original, high-impact ideas and rigorous experimental validation.

Responsibilities

  • Join a multidisciplinary team of Research Scientists and Engineers focused on building a cutting-edge multi-sensor simulation stack that integrates graphics, computer vision, and machine learning.
  • Design and implement core rendering technology for simulating cameras, LiDARs, and RADARs, combining traditional real-time rendering techniques with neural rendering, 3D Gaussian Splatting, generative models, and more.
  • Collaborate closely with Waabi’s autonomy and safety teams to enhance the realism and diversity of Waabi World.
  • Contribute to high-impact research with opportunities to publish at top-tier conferences such as CVPR, ECCV, ICCV, SIGGRAPH, NeurIPS, ICLR, and ICRA.

Requirements

  • Real-time Graphics Experience: Minimum of three years shipping real-time rendering projects with extensive experience in at least one GPU API (Vulkan, DirectX, OpenGL, or similar).
  • GPU Optimization Familiarity: Deep understanding of GPU performance and proficiency in using instrumentation and tracing tools (e.g., NSight, Tracy, Renderdoc) to identify and resolve bottlenecks.
  • Strong Software Engineering Fundamentals: Ability to write efficient and maintainable code in systems languages like C++ or Rust. Proficiency in at least one shading language (GLSL, HLSL, WGSL, etc.).
  • Passion for Building Worlds: Proven experience creating and working within interactive 3D environments, whether from AAA games, indie titles, or complex robotics simulators.

Bonus / Nice to Have

  • Experience working with robotics and other autonomous systems.
  • Experience with accelerated computing technologies such as CUDA, OpenCL, and Vulkan compute pipelines.
  • Experience with accelerated raytracing (Nvidia OptiX, Vulkan Raytracing, DXR, etc.).
  • Experience with Python and deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, JAX, TensorFlow).
  • Experience with neural rendering techniques (NeRF, Gaussian Splatting, etc.).
  • Experience working in cloud computing environments, including launching and debugging GPU jobs.

Employment Type

  • Full-time

Salary & Perks/Benefits

  • US Yearly Salary Range: $155,000 - $269,000 USD
    • This range is in addition to competitive perks & benefits.

Waabi

Develops self-driving technology for trucking

About Waabi

Waabi focuses on developing self-driving technology specifically for the trucking industry. Their main product, the Waabi Driver, is designed to learn from experiences, adapt to new situations, and work with various hardware setups. This technology aims for large-scale use and is intended for integration into vehicles by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). A key feature that sets Waabi apart from competitors is its use of Waabi World, an advanced simulation environment that allows for efficient development of their self-driving systems. This reduces the need for extensive real-world testing, which can be costly and time-consuming, while also improving safety and adaptability. Waabi's goal is to transform the trucking industry by providing technology that lowers operational costs and enhances safety for commercial vehicles. They aim to license their technology to trucking companies and OEMs, making it easier for these businesses to adopt self-driving solutions.
