Requirements

  • Experience with ML systems in personalization, ranking, search, recommendations, or GenAI/LLM systems
  • Ability to build end-to-end ML systems including candidate sourcing, embedding platforms, ANN retrieval, and multi-stage ranking
  • Expertise in implementing LLM-based features such as RAG pipelines, instruction-/preference-tuning (e.g., SFT/DPO), prompt optimization, and latency/cost-aware inference
  • Proficiency in developing robust embeddings from behavior signals, explicit inputs, and conversational context
  • Skills in evaluation infrastructure for ranking and generative systems (e.g., NDCG, AUC, BLEU, BERTScore, quality/safety scorecards) and A/B experiments
  • Capability to ship reliable systems at scale, including training-serving consistency, drift detection, canarying/rollback, on-call rotation, and CI/CD
  • Ability to write high-quality code, follow best practices for experimentation rigor and reproducibility
  • Experience collaborating with Product, Design, Legal, Data Science, and senior ML/SWE teammates on objectives, tradeoffs, and responsible AI
  • Willingness to stay current with AI advancements
  • Availability for onsite work in San Francisco office (minimum 3 days/week: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, plus as needed)

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the technical roadmap for applied AI across personalization, ranking, search, recommendations, and GenAI/LLM systems; connect modeling to business metrics (engaged learners, conversion, retention, revenue)
  • Build components of end-to-end ML systems: candidate sourcing, embedding platforms & ANN retrieval, multi-stage ranking (early/late), and value modeling with guardrails for fairness and integrity
  • Implement LLM-based features: build RAG pipelines, apply instruction-/preference-tuning techniques (e.g., SFT/DPO), optimize prompts, improve latency/cost-aware inference; contribute to offline evals, human-in-the-loop, and online success metrics
  • Help develop "Learner 360" representations using behavior signals, explicit inputs, and conversational context for reusable embeddings across surfaces
  • Support evaluation infrastructure: contribute to eval harness for ranking and generative systems (offline metrics like NDCG/AUC/BLEU/BERTScore; quality/safety scorecards), and integrate with online A/B experiments
  • Ship reliable systems at scale: ensure training-serving consistency, implement drift detection, follow canarying/rollback protocols, participate in on-call rotation for model services, maintain strong CI/CD for features & models
  • Collaborate with and learn from senior ML/SWE teammates; write high-quality code and follow best practices for experimentation rigor and reproducibility
  • Work closely with Product, Design, Legal, and Data Science on objectives, tradeoffs, and responsible AI practices
