Requirements

  • PhD with 8+ years of industry experience
  • Strong foundation in protein expression in eukaryotic, prokaryotic, and cell-free systems
  • Demonstrated expertise in cloning techniques for therapeutic protein development
  • Pharmaceutical or industrial experience in protein production at scales from microgram to gram
  • Strong understanding of biophysics of protein-protein interactions and protein chemistry
  • Extensive experience in molecular biology and biophysical techniques for protein engineering
  • Strong technical background in protein expression, tissue culture, aseptic techniques, and operation/maintenance of bioreactors in industry
  • Experienced molecular biologist able to design and make expression constructs
  • Mammalian transient protein expression and cell line generation
  • Hands-on experience in generating and managing research cell banks
  • Experience in protein purification and protein characterization
  • Experience in high throughput expression and purification (expected)
  • Experience and flexibility in downstream purification (required)
  • Supervisory or mentorship experience (desirable)
  • Ability to work independently, drive scientific execution, and provide technical leadership

Responsibilities

  • Lead protein expression in multiple systems: mammalian, prokaryotic, insect, and cell-free
  • Perform downstream processing: harvesting cells (small scale to 20L) using depth filters, affinity chromatography, ion exchange chromatography, and sizing
  • Use analytical techniques to evaluate process efficiency and quality
  • Develop creative approaches: construct design/screening for higher yields, novel strategies for difficult proteins, and stability improvements
  • Work on target proteins: therapeutic proteins, antigens, assay reagents, and proteins for structural studies
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to team members
