Requirements

Candidates must possess a BS/MS in Computer Science, Statistics, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, with 5+ or 4+ years of experience post-degree. Strong software engineering fundamentals are essential, along with basic knowledge of training and evaluating ML models. Familiarity with deep learning concepts like Transformers, RAG, and MoE is required, as is proficiency in data/ML libraries such as pandas, transformers, and torch. Hands-on experience in end-to-end ML system training, evaluation, and deployment is necessary, along with knowledge of state-of-the-art open-source models for various tasks. The ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams is also a requirement. Preferred qualifications include a PhD with 1+ years of industry experience, publications in top AI venues, experience in high-growth environments, and expertise in embedding models, multimodal retrieval, vector databases, LLM planning/reasoning, and multilingual LLMs.

Responsibilities

The Senior Machine Learning Engineer will design, prototype, research, and build AI systems for Vectara. They will train, evaluate, and deploy ML models in areas such as Natural Language Processing, Information Retrieval, AI Agents, and Large Language Models. Responsibilities also include improving the quality of Vectara's AI Agents and RAG platform by working on features like agentic behavior, hallucination reduction, and agent orchestration. Additionally, the role involves publishing technical blogs, papers, and patents.
