Candidates should have 3-5+ years of life new business underwriting and case management experience, with extensive experience using underwriting rules engines and rules management. Comfort working in an agile environment and leveraging systems like JIRA is required, along with an understanding of data and models in the underwriting process. The ability to communicate results and needs among multiple parties, a record of identifying opportunities and delivering solutions quickly, and a desire to be a team player in a dynamic environment are essential. An obsession with the customer and the ability to challenge the status quo are also necessary qualifications.
The Senior Life Underwriter will be responsible for the ongoing analysis and monitoring of rules engine and workbench performance, as well as the continued review of evidence and synthesis of underwriting data from all sources. They will work with the Head of Underwriting Strategies to assess business risk for changes to underwriting guidelines and create specific recommendations and action plans to drive automated underwriting decisions and process improvement. This role involves acting as both an owner and contributor to multiple projects, solidifying protocols for rule and system enhancements, and maintaining appropriate documentation for underwriting criteria, guidelines, and workflows. The individual will prioritize system decisions based on business need, business case, and ROI, serve as an underwriting process expert and liaison to cross-functional teams, and ensure end-user proficiency with new systems through training and updates. Additionally, they will work with engineers as a business liaison to efficiently integrate new data, models, partners, programs, and applications.
