Candidates must have experience working on VA.gov and possess strong systems-level thinking and an experimental mindset. Proficiency in front-end frameworks, integrating with backend APIs like the Benefits Intake API and VA’s Central Mail Portal, and implementing accessibility compliance (WCAG 2.1 / Section 508) are essential. Experience with automated testing tools such as Cypress, Playwright, axe, and pa11y is required, along with a strong understanding of security best practices for handling PII.
The Senior Fullstack Engineer will build Veteran-facing digital forms and multi-party workflows on the VA.gov platform, ensuring secure, validated, and CMP-compliant submissions. Responsibilities include crafting intuitive and accessible forms, generating PDFs/JSON with data integrity, integrating with vets-api submission endpoints, and coordinating data flow with backend teams. The role involves designing complex validations, conditional logic, privacy controls, and multi-party workflows, as well as identifying, evaluating, and implementing solutions quickly with high quality. Additionally, the engineer will write automated tests for form logic, validations, and accessibility, troubleshoot production issues, improve system performance, and make informed architectural decisions using design patterns and best practices.
