Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering required (Master’s degree in engineering preferred)
  • 5 to 8 years of related experience
  • Ability to interpret and analyze key regional transmission planning studies
  • Understanding of state and federal utility industry regulation
  • Experience and understanding with ISO/RTO processes and rules, particularly with respect to transmission planning, interconnection, and/or operations
  • Understanding of economic theory and wholesale electricity markets
  • Demonstrates competency and proficiency in oral and written communications
  • Demonstrates strong analytical skills, ability to apply knowledge to solve problems, and strong team building skills; must think strategically
  • Must have technical knowledge of the New England transmission grid
  • Experience testifying in state or federal proceedings

Responsibilities

  • Analyze transmission engineering and analyses of proposed Eversource transmission investments, including projects to support the clean energy transition in New England, with a focus on tradeoffs between cost and performance
  • Prepare and submit data, reports, presentations, and compliance filings regarding Eversource transmission projects to ISO New England and NEPOOL committees
  • Serve as a transmission engineering subject matter expert in state, regional, and federal forums and represent Eversource at ISO New England and NEPOOL committees
  • Monitor Eversource transmission projects and resource interconnections
  • Develop and implement process improvements to streamline data collection and reporting
  • Review key filings (such as Transmission Cost Allocation applications)
  • Implement strategies to gain stakeholder support
  • Participate in key regional transmission planning efforts and interpret the results for strategic insights and guidance
  • Review engineering studies and analysis of Transmission projects throughout the project lifecycle and interpret results for strategic insights and guidance
  • Analyze federal (FERC), regional (ISO New England), and state policy proposals for their impact on Eversource and customers
  • Develop recommended policy positions and work with internal stakeholders to reach consensus on strategy
  • Develop analytical products, visualizations, research, and other advocacy materials to support strategic policy recommendations and outreach
  • Scrutinize technical reports related to the operational and economic impact of clean energy resources on the electric transmission and distribution systems in New England
  • Represent Eversource on regional and national advisory committees (NEPOOL committees, trade associations, etc.)
  • Support regulatory compliance filings/reporting in federal, regional, and state arenas
  • May serve as an expert witness in state regulatory proceedings
  • Provide subject matter expertise to state clean energy procurement evaluation team on transmission network and interconnection-related issues
  • Lead teams of internal stakeholders to reach consensus on strategy
  • Support outreach and advocacy to external stakeholders
