Senior Backend Engineer - Payments Team

Position Overview

Garner is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our Payments team. This role is crucial for accurately and efficiently managing financial transactions within the company and for our members. You will support or lead projects from inception to delivery with a high degree of autonomy and ownership, collaborating closely with Product and other engineers to ensure well-thought-out designs and effective implementations. This position is fully remote.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain the back-end services powering Garner’s core business.
• Participate in an on-call rotation, responding to system outages and supporting escalations from internal stakeholders.
• Collaborate across disciplines to provide timely and accurate technical designs, work estimates, and answers to technical questions.
• Protect user privacy and security through best practices.
• Design and optimize for the long term while iteratively delivering for the short term.
• Ideate on new features and leverage data to uncover new insights.
• Research and work with the latest tools and technologies.
• Collaborate using our tech stack, including Python, AWS, NATS, Terraform, Postgres, ElasticSearch, Snowflake, and Kubernetes.

Requirements

• 5+ years of industry experience building and maintaining scalable, high-quality software.
• Strong proficiency in Python is required.
• Experience building both event-driven and request-driven microservices.
• Familiarity with TypeScript is a bonus, but not required.
• A strong understanding of the AWS menu of services.
• Hands-on experience with SQL (Snowflake experience is a nice-to-have).
• Experience deploying, supporting, operating, and scaling applications running on Kubernetes.
• Familiarity working in cross-functional teams using Agile practices, including sprint ceremonies.
• A willingness to “roll up your sleeves” and do whatever is necessary to ensure company success.
• Experience in finance and/or payment systems is a bonus.
• Experience working in a rapidly evolving startup environment.
• A desire to be part of our mission to improve the U.S. healthcare system.
• Authorized to work lawfully in the United States of America, as Garner does not currently engage in immigration sponsorship.

Compensation & Benefits

• Target Salary Range: $185,000 - $220,000
