Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field and have over 5 years of experience filing U.S. fuel excise tax returns. Strong communication skills, the ability to interpret motor fuel tax law, and experience with Oracle, PDI, or OTS ERP systems are required. Advanced proficiency in Excel, including lookups, pivot tables, and formulas, along with excellent analytical, critical thinking, and organizational skills, are essential. The role also requires adaptability to a dynamic business environment.
The Senior Accountant – Excise Tax will be responsible for preparing and filing monthly, quarterly, and annual fuel excise and environmental tax returns, and reconciling tax liability accounts using Blackline for accurate financial reporting. They will maintain and update databases for tax exemptions, rates, and jurisdictional rules, conduct tax research to ensure compliance with evolving requirements, and utilize Avalara and AKORE for jurisdictional reporting. This role involves investigating and responding to tax notices, addressing motor vehicle tax inquiries, supporting stakeholders in meeting compliance requirements, and assisting with audit activities. Additionally, the Senior Accountant will resolve tax-related disputes, mentor junior accountants in tax law research, and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
