Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) - Windows Sensor

Employment Type: Full-time

Position Overview

CrowdStrike is a global leader in cybersecurity, protecting organizations with our advanced AI-native platform. We process trillions of events daily and are dedicated to stopping breaches. We are seeking a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join our Windows sensor engineering team, focusing on the detection space. In this role, you will collaborate closely with Software Development Engineers (SDEs) in combined engineering teams, contributing significantly to the quality of our Falcon Host sensor. You will leverage your software development skills to build tools, harnesses, and specialized tests to ensure high-quality product releases.

About the Role

The CrowdStrike Falcon Host is a two-component security product:

  • Sensor: A driver installed on client machines that observes system activity, detects malicious behavior, provides on-box prevention, and sends remote telemetry to the Falcon Host cloud. It processes thousands of events per second, offering deep visibility and performing correlation and computation to identify and block malicious activity.
  • Cloud Component: Aggregates sensor telemetry, correlates malicious behavior across multiple machines, and presents prioritized threat summaries to customer operations teams.

As an SDET on the Windows sensor engineering team, you will:

  • Focus on the quality of the sensor.
  • Use strong software development skills to build effective tools, harnesses, and specialized tests.
  • Participate actively in design and code reviews.
  • Collaborate with research, hunting, and cloud teams to ensure end-to-end sensor functionality.

Successful engineers in this role possess:

  • An understanding of Windows kernel and user space.
  • A passion for continuous learning to keep up with the evolving threat landscape.
  • A creative mindset for designing new code validation methods to enhance quality, performance, and reliability.

What You'll Do

  • Work closely with detection engineers to foster a culture of high product quality and excellence.
  • Analyze complex software features and develop effective test strategies and designs.
  • Extend the existing codebase using C++, Python, and DSLs to improve testability and debuggability.
  • Identify and write specialized tests crucial for system-wide quality, including performance, scalability, and limits.
  • Collaborate with product and release management to manage risk, enhance quality, and streamline release cycles.
  • Debug product issues identified through testing or customer cases, pinpointing root causes to improve future tests.
  • Participate in product and test code reviews, focusing on improving the security and robustness of the system.
  • Contribute to engineering best practices, including secure coding, testing paradigms, debugging, performance measurement, code reviews, CI/CD, and OS internals, ensuring the sensor code is fast and reliable.
  • Be an energetic self-starter with the ability to take ownership.
