Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Math, or relevant field
  • 4+ years of experience in virtual CAE and physical testing relating to vehicle structures
  • Willingness to learn new skills and adapt expeditiously
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others
  • High level of analytical ability to solve challenging problems and to integrate complex systems
  • Knowledge of statistical and optimization tools and techniques

Responsibilities

  • Understand and apply GM Safety Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) standard work procedures for delivering quality models and simulation results
  • Use CAE to lead the vehicle design, while balancing all applicable Global Safety Requirements
  • Perform CAE simulations to evaluate full vehicle crashworthiness performance for high-speed Frontal, Side, and/or Rear impact load cases using LS-DYNA software
  • Generate feasible and timely vehicle design recommendations and technical solutions to meet safety performance targets as documented in the Vehicle Technical Specifications (VTS) and achieve balanced safety performance
  • Work with engineering functions, program teams, suppliers, manufacturing, and others to implement design changes as required
  • Use advanced CAE tools and methods (Variation Study/DOE/DFSS/MDO) to optimize the structural designs and improve structural efficiency
  • Provide physical safety test support at the Milford Vehicle Proving Grounds including test requests, test, post-test teardowns, interpretation of results, issue resolution follow-through, and comparison of CAE to test results
  • Present performance status at appropriate forums on a regular basis
  • Hold responsibility for crashworthiness development of vehicle structure for GM Vehicle Programs
  • Lead engineering projects by demonstrating initiative, creativity, independent judgment, and project management throughout the vehicle development process
  • Synthesize physical and virtual test results with respect to safety technical requirements
  • Work with global teams in a collaborative environment
  • Provide technical direction while working with multiple functional groups
