Requirements

  • Knowledge of local, provincial, and federal SHE regulations (e.g., NPRI, RCRA, Clean Water Act, OSHA, WHMIS)
  • Technical expertise in process safety and ability to perform process safety studies
  • Experience with Environmental Management Systems, including procedures, objectives, targets, management reviews, and audits
  • Ability to lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and preventative action plans
  • Capability to develop and maintain standard operating procedures for regulatory compliance
  • Skills in training delivery for technical and behavioural safety programs
  • Understanding of TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) SHE Pillar for continuous improvement

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for safety programs at the manufacturing plant and two distribution warehouses
  • Achieve key performance indicators (KPIs) defined for SHE
  • Coordinate SHE system across Mississauga plant and warehouses, ensuring timely training, complete incident investigations, scheduled audits, and resolved observations
  • Ensure precautions for associate protection, promote safety awareness, and provide ongoing safety and WHMIS training/assessments
  • Provide guidance and technical expertise to Plant Management for compliance with SHE regulations
  • Lead the SHE Pillar of TPM to drive continuous improvement in safety, health, and environment
  • Develop and maintain SOPs for compliance with major regulatory programs (e.g., NPRI, RCRA, Clean Water Act, OSHA)
  • Manage Environmental Management Systems, including updating procedures, setting objectives/targets, facilitating reviews, and conducting audits
  • Develop and implement systems/projects to eliminate unsafe practices, reduce hazardous waste, increase recycling, and promote conservation
  • Evaluate systems and implement projects to meet wastewater and air quality permit requirements
  • Disseminate information on new regulations or SHE events
  • Develop, track, and communicate SHE indicators (e.g., safety indexes, inspection results, compliance costs)
  • Represent the plant in third-party SHE audit reviews, track responses to observations, and communicate resolution status
  • Monitor compliance with SHE regulations and oversee preparation/response for compliance audits
  • Work with plant, warehouses, and corporate staff on design, development, coaching, training, and administration of SHE systems
  • Assist plant management in implementing/maintaining company policies and managing regulatory compliance projects
  • Focus on reducing waste generation, increasing recycling, and improving treatment systems
