Requirements

Doctorate (Ph.D.) with specialist knowledge in molecular design, specifically synthesis or polymer chemistry
Strong background in polymer science, with expertise in elastomeric materials, structure–property correlation
At least 5 years of experience, ideally in chemical R&D or manufacturing environment, preferably polyurethane industry
Hands-on experience with rheology, DMA, TGA, DSC, FTIR, and other polymer characterization tools
First working experience around elastomers & know-how of structure-property correlation (distinct advantage)
Highly innovative and willing to take initiative to tackle complex technical challenges
Good communication skills and fluency in English (other languages an asset)
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to coach others
Strong project leadership and cross-cultural collaboration skills
Willing to travel globally

Responsibilities

Ensure full compliance with safety, health, and environmental guidelines according to site and company standards in all areas of responsibility, including laboratory facilities and testing equipment; promote safety
Design and develop elastomeric formulations for differentiated polyurethane technologies
Conduct mechanical, thermal, and chemical characterization of elastomers to validate performance and durability
Utilize advanced analytical techniques to understand polymer morphology and its impact on macroscopic properties
Drive innovation through exploratory research and ideation workshops
Understand different stages of product development from ideation to commercialization
Monitor global trends and competitor activities in polyurethane technologies
Experience in process development, cost optimization, scale up and technology transfer from lab scale to pilot scale
Provide consultancy and support to ISC business teams and advise on the resolution of relevant non-routine technical problems
Design, agree, plan, and independently carry out non-routine, innovative experimental programs and specify the timing and resource needs
Communicate the outputs, conclusions, and recommendations to the project stakeholders to provide a technical basis for strategic decisions
Apply knowledge to create ideas and to propose development programs for innovation in the fields of polymer science targeted at achieving competitive advantage, contributing to strategic business development opportunities
Keep abreast of relevant competitive IP literature to direct own research and to develop a strategically aligned intellectual property portfolio in the field of polyurethane chemistry and write appropriate invention reports
