Requirements

Bachelor's degree or some college with Dietetic Internship or similar Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics approved program (unless already registered with CDR)
Registered Dietitian with Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) within 180 days
Licensed Dietitian from the Licensing Board in the state based on job assignment within 180 days
Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties
Ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds

Responsibilities

Provide nutritional counseling and consultation to Healthy Start program participants, focusing on maternal pregnancy, postpartum nutrition, and infant feeding
Complete program-related nutrition evaluations and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team for education and resource planning
Provide group-based nutrition education on nutrition during pregnancy, postpartum, and infant/toddler stages
Perform accurate and timely assessments of patient’s nutritional status, including nutritional needs, patient/family knowledge, readiness to learn, cultural/religious needs, and physical/mental limitations
Demonstrate knowledge of age-specific factors from infant through geriatrics
Plan and implement individualized, outcomes-based nutritional care plans with measurable goals
Provide medical nutrition therapy to patients/family based on assessment needs
Ensure continuity of nutrition care through communication with care providers at admission and discharge
Help transition patients to new care environments
Document all phases of the nutrition care process completely and concisely
Develop and interpret patient education classes and/or materials
Educate the public by planning and presenting lectures on nutrition therapy and community nutrition
Provide guidance to dietetic assistants in identifying and assigning patients to nutritional risk levels using screening/assessment policies
Function as an integral member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team through participation in team conferences, care planning, and communication
