About Syntax

Syntax is a data and technology provider to the financial services industry. The company offers a range of unique data sets for public and private companies that organize the global economy based on systems theory. Data is delivered via complete database solutions, consulting services, indices, and turnkey technology platforms.

About the Role

The Classification team at Syntax provides high quality data that enables our clients, including asset managers, registered investment advisors, and institutional investors, to make informed investment decisions with conviction. As a Qualitative Equity Research Analyst, you will support the building and maintenance of Syntax’s database of publicly traded companies by leveraging sources such as regulatory filings, industry reports, and proprietary research tools. This data is used internally by Syntax’s Index Development department to build financial indices, as well as externally by clients who license this data to create their own products or augment their analytics. Once a fundamental understanding of the database and proficiency at classification are achieved, this role will entail creating investment products customized to client requests, working on process improvement projects, and increasing the comprehensiveness of the dataset.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thematic research using publicly available sources
  • Proactively search for new data and information sources, continuously refining our database and research processes
  • Generate original research ideas and identify new opportunities for index development
  • Collaborate with the software development team to automate data collection and validation processes and improve data content, making the system more robust and efficient
  • Participate in client meetings related to product requests and demos
  • Develop ever-increasing expertise on core industries

Ideal Candidate Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or Master's degree in Business, Economics, International Affairs, or a research-focused liberal arts subject
  • Up to 2 years of experience
  • Strong qualitative research skills, with the ability to organize and absorb large amounts of information. Keen attention to work quality/detail is a must
  • Adept at managing multiple projects, adhering to deadlines, and adjusting priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Collaborative mindset, strong interpersonal skills, and eagerness to contribute to our team-oriented culture
  • Resourceful and capable of executing tasks/solving problems with autonomy
  • Quick learner with a commitment to hard work and intellectual curiosity
  • Familiarity with financial statements and annual reports
