Requirements

  • Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon (Lumbar Spine)
  • Pulmonary Disease and Pain Management physician
  • West Virginia medical license (preferred)
  • Worker's Compensation experience
  • Proper credentialing, state licenses, and any special certifications required for the job

Responsibilities

  • Review all medical records and address each client question using state-mandated or nationally recognized evidence-based criteria
  • Ensure rationale for determinations is clear, concise, and supported by adequate documentation
  • Return cases on or before the due date and time
  • Maintain proper credentialing, state licenses, and special certifications
  • Attend all required orientation and training
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including responding to quality assurance issues, complaints, regulatory issues, depositions, court appearances, or audits
  • Identify, critique, and utilize current criteria and resources (e.g., national, state, professional guidelines, peer-reviewed literature) for objective decision-making; avoid case studies or cohorts due to limited sample sizes
  • Provide copies of criteria used in reviews with the report in a timely manner
  • Conduct Independent Medical Exams (IME) in a clean, safe, professional manner and setting
  • Utilize clinical expertise to review workers' compensation claims for medical appropriateness in compliance with regulations, evidence-based guidelines, client policies, procedures, performance standards, and URAC guidelines
