Principal Software Engineer - AI Knowledge Team

Position Overview

Dataminr is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join our AI Knowledge team. This role is instrumental in building and maintaining our multi-million node knowledge graph, which is the backbone of Dataminr's real-time event detection and alerting platform. As a Principal Software Engineer, you will leverage your expertise in software engineering, data engineering, and AI to significantly influence the future direction of Dataminr's knowledge platform. This US-based position offers the flexibility of remote work or being based in our New York City office.

At Dataminr, you will engage with cutting-edge AI advancements daily, contributing to a revolutionary product that detects critical global events as they happen. Our work encompasses:

• Regenerative AI: Utilizing our proprietary technology, ReGenAI, to automatically regenerate real-time Live Event Briefs.
• Agentic AI: Developing our Intel Agents, which autonomously generate crucial context for clients on real-time events, threats, and risks, providing the clearest and most accurate situational awareness.
• Multimodal AI: Processing and detecting events from diverse data sources, including images, video, sensor data, audio, and text in over 150 languages.

The Opportunity

In this role, you will:

• Lead multi-team initiatives focused on the development of Dataminr's Knowledge Platform.
• Implement industry best practices alongside novel patterns and technologies to enhance the codebase and product.
• Develop robust pipelines and services for the construction and maintenance of our large-scale knowledge graph.
• Collaborate with software engineers, data scientists, and AI researchers in cross-functional teams to create new capabilities that integrate knowledge and AI for automated, large-scale alerting.
• Develop and apply AI solutions to automate data quality assessments and updates within the knowledge graph.
• Create solutions for knowledge graph data access and management, including the application of Generative AI/LLMs.
• Work on diverse applications of AI over the knowledge graph.

• Education: M.S. in Computer Science. A Ph.D. in any field is a plus.
• Experience: 10+ years of software engineering experience.
• Engineering Practices: Proven track record of implementing and adhering to strong engineering practices through hands-on coding.
• Mentorship: Experience mentoring and/or influencing senior and junior engineering team members to develop their software engineering skills.
• Technical Proficiency:
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, and Scala.
  • Experience with data engineering and ETL pipelines.
  • Experience with cloud and distributed systems.
• Knowledge Graphs: Prior experience working with knowledge graphs is a plus.
