Requirements

  • OD, MD/DO/MBBS/PhD/PharmD/Advanced Degree in Ophthalmology or Optometry
  • Deep knowledge of eye diseases including ophthalmic surgical procedures and optometry
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an ophthalmology or optometry field (academia, industry, practice), with at least 3 of those in the ophthalmic device or pharma industry
  • Minimum 8 years at Alcon in an R&D/GMA role preferred
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in a customer-facing role
  • Working knowledge of the Healthcare System and of the research procedures as well as the ICH guidelines, GCP, and other ethical guidelines
  • Experience designing and executing clinical trials, in the post-market phase
  • Experience in scientific/medical presentations and deep experience in medical writing and biostatistics
  • Broad knowledge of clinical trial design, product development, regulatory requirements, payer landscape, and life cycle management

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a strategic link between Alcon and Medical Experts (ME)/Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) in Ophthalmology and Optometry and the internal GMA MSL/R&D organization
  • Strategically support the development and appropriate use/adoption of Alcon products and therapies through evidence generation and evidence-based scientific exchange/medical presentations
  • Gather actionable insights to inform and shape the company’s understanding of products, therapeutic area, market access, and clinical practice
  • Respond to unsolicited requests for scientific exchange/insights, with detailed working knowledge of FDA-approved Alcon products, current medical/scientific research, publications, and proposals for scientific research
  • Engage in KOL mapping and strategic alignment
  • Provide support for ECPs interested in participating in Alcon’s Investigator Initiated Trials (IITs) by guiding them through concept endorsement, synopsis review, grant approval process, and acting as an end-to-end study liaison
  • Mentor and train new field Medical Affairs Managers and experienced team members in scientific subject matter, KOL/IIT management skills, business acumen (landscape, financial literacy, market/competitive intelligence, strategic thinking, customer-centric focus)
  • Deliver unbiased scientific data dissemination in the form of medical presentations to practitioners, third-party payors, and internal Alcon associates
  • Respond to queries and unsolicited requests for medical information from doctors escalated to the Medical Affairs Managers team
  • Provide information for healthcare coverage and access decisions using Health Economics and Outcomes Research and deep payor landscape knowledge
  • Help in trial design, providing biostatistics support, and possess deep manuscript preparation and publication expertise
