Requirements

  • Advanced experience in modeling, texturing, rigging and lighting for Previs
  • High proficiency with modeling and texturing tools within common 3D packages (e.g. Maya, Blender, Substance Painter, ZBrush, or similar)
  • Strong generalist skills working in Unreal Engine (advantageous), including assembling aesthetically pleasing environments, managing levels and sequencer, ensuring correct asset imports, and experience in advanced lighting and look development
  • Familiarity with scripting and coding in Python/MEL (advantageous), as well as Unreal Engine coding knowledge such as developing small-scale tools, scripts, or blueprints
  • Excellent verbal and visual communication skills, with the ability to take complex feedback and rapidly iterate
  • An interest in Machine Learning and experimenting with its application in Previs (advantageous)
  • Demo reel, shot breakdown, or equivalent showcasing work, plus a current resume

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with the Previs Supervisor and Previs Lead to design and create fast and efficient assets and solutions to technical problems
  • Model, texture, and rig characters, creatures, vehicles, props, and environments to a level of detail suitable for Previs, ensuring optimization for near-realtime performance in Maya’s Viewport 2 or Unreal Engine
  • Prepare low-tech, fast-render aesthetic solutions to achieve complex looks (lighting and rendering)
  • Troubleshoot assets and suggest improvements to increase pipeline efficiency and productivity
  • Establish and adhere to efficient workflows for asset iteration using Maya and in-house tools
  • Set up and manage optimised environments in Unreal Engine; create and prepare real-time-ready assets and integrate them seamlessly from Maya
  • Communicate and collaborate with other departments across ILM
  • Take initiative to acquire new skills and think outside the box
