Requirements

High School or GED Equivalent
Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) (preferred)
Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties
Ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds
Ability to work rotating shifts: 4am-12:30pm, 8am-4:30pm, 12pm-8:30pm, 2pm-10:30pm; every third weekend and holiday; occasional call time

Responsibilities

Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection following approved techniques and policies for hospital inpatients and clinic outpatients
Organize specimen collection requests
Perform patient clinical laboratory specimen collection procedures, specimen transport, specimen processing, testing dispersal, point-of-care testing procedures, and other pre-analytic functions
Collect blood and other specimens in a competent manner to avoid repeat collections or valid complaints
Properly identify patients before specimen collection and explain procedures, providing necessary preparation and collection instructions
Complete patient registration and test order computer data entry as required
Label, transport, or store collected specimens accurately and timely
Communicate professionally and efficiently with internal and external customers via telephone, pager, or in person
Interpret inpatient and outpatient test orders to determine appropriate collection time and specimen types
Perform selected point-of-care testing according to established standards
Assist with analysis, collection, and maintenance of records as required by regulatory agencies and/or federal, state, or local law
