Candidates must possess a national pharmacy technician certification (PTCB, NHA/ExCPT) that is current and in good standing, and maintain it. An Oklahoma state pharmacy technician license, current and in good standing, is also required and must be maintained. A minimum of one year of experience in pharmacy prior authorization processing is necessary, although retail or hospital experience may be considered. The role requires the ability to multitask, prioritize work effectively, and adapt to changing business or department needs, along with good organizational skills. Candidates must also have their own reliable home internet access, a secure home workspace, and high-level PC skills, including proficiency with mouse and keyboard navigation across multiple systems and screens. A rotating weekend schedule is mandatory.
The Pharmacy Technician will process prior authorization requests received via phone, fax, or electronic means, using various computer resources, existing criteria, and medication guidelines to conduct clinical research for prior authorization reviews. They will proactively complete prior authorization approvals and denials that are due to expire, ensuring complete, timely, and accurate documentation. Responsibilities include reviewing potential prior authorization denial language for NCQA compliance, following established prior authorization workflows, policies, and procedures. The technician will answer a high volume of prior authorization inquiry calls from provider offices, pharmacies, and internal partners, communicating prior authorization status or decisions using various computer resources. Maintaining a balance of productivity, quality, and timeliness is essential, as is participating in required training, continuing education, and team/departmental meetings. Excellent attendance is a must.
