Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy (required)
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) (required)
  • Current state license to practice as a Respiratory Therapist (required)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (required)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification (preferred)
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in respiratory care (preferred), with experience in acute care, intensive care, or long-term care settings being advantageous
  • Strong knowledge of pulmonary function and pulmonary rehabilitation
  • Proficiency in using respiratory therapy equipment
  • In-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology related to the cardiopulmonary system
  • Competence in EMR and computer literacy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team
  • Good physical and emotional health, ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
  • Physical Exam and 2-Step PPD or Chest X-ray

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patients with respiratory conditions in a skilled nursing facility setting
  • Develop and adjust individualized treatment plans
  • Provide respiratory therapy treatments
  • Administer medications and oxygen therapy
  • Perform diagnostic tests (spirometry, arterial blood gas analysis, pulmonary function testing)
  • Monitor patients’ vital signs and response to therapy
  • Provide emergency care such as CPR and airway management
  • Set up, operate, and maintain respiratory therapy equipment (mechanical ventilators, CPAP machines, etc.)
  • Inspect, test, and clean equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation
  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment problems, and order repairs as needed
  • Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to manage patient care
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members
  • Educate patients and families on respiratory care techniques and disease management
  • Maintain accurate and complete patient records
  • Follow specified treatment parameters
  • Adhere to facility policies and procedures, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and standards of practice
  • Participate in orientation and continuing education programs
  • Stay updated on the latest developments in respiratory care
  • Contribute to the professional development of yourself and facility staff
  • Demonstrate safe working practices and use appropriate protective equipment
  • Participate in quality improvement programs
  • Identify and correct safety hazards in the work environment
