Responsibilities

Assist in patient education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
Welcome patients, inquire about wellbeing, and evaluate vascular access for patency
Obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs, weight, and perform vascular access evaluation
Initiate, monitor, and discontinue dialysis treatments per prescribed orders, including blood flow (QB), dialysate flow (QD), UF goal, treatment time, and UF modeling
Evaluate intradialytic problems, provide interventions as prescribed, and monitor patient response
Ensure safety alarms are enabled (e.g., Narrow Venous Limits at 160)
Record accurate vital signs, treatment parameters, and documentation on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes
Report significant changes or unusual findings to registered nurse or supervisor
Perform and document machine safety checks and interventions for unusual patient status
Evaluate vascular access during treatment, monitor pressures, and intervene as needed
Obtain prescribed laboratory testing and prepare specimens
Clean blood spills with appropriate disinfectant
Prepare, organize, and utilize supplies/equipment efficiently to prevent wastage
Monitor patients performing self-care under RN supervision
Support Quality Enhancement Program (QEP), CQI activities, and process improvements
Assist in maintaining a safe and clean working environment
Setup and operate hemodialysis machines
Perform pre- and post-dialysis evaluations, obtain hemostasis, and apply dressings
Evaluate patient prior to discharge
