Functions under direct supervision of a licensed nurse in accordance with FMCNA policies, procedures, training, and state/federal regulations

Ability to perform setup and operation of hemodialysis machines
Ability to assist in maintaining a safe and clean working environment

Responsibilities

Drive FMS culture through values and customer service standards; provide outstanding customer service to all external and internal customers
Develop and maintain effective relationships through effective and timely communication
Take initiative to respond, resolve, and follow up on customer service issues
Assist in providing patient-specific education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
Welcome assigned patients, inquire about well-being, and report complaints or observations to nurse supervisor
Evaluate vascular access for patency pre-treatment and report unusual findings to nurse supervisor
Obtain necessary pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weight; report unusual findings to nurse supervisor
Perform vascular access cannulation and report difficulties or unusual findings to nurse supervisor
Perform administration of Heparin as delegated or allowed by state law
Initiate dialysis treatment per prescribed orders (blood flow QB, dialysate flow QD)
Evaluate intradialytic problems and provide intervention as prescribed or directed
Monitor patients' response to dialysis therapy and report unusual findings to nurse supervisor
Obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion; perform functions for treatment discontinuation and document
Discontinue dialysis treatment per procedures; evaluate patient prior to termination of venous access (standing/sitting BP)
Obtain hemostasis and apply appropriate dressings
Evaluate patient prior to discharge and report unusual findings to nurse supervisor
Perform and record pre- and post-dialysis evaluation, weight, and vital signs with initial identification
Calculate and enter individual patients' dialysis machine programming (UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, UF modeling)
Ensure appropriate safety alarms are enabled (e.g., Narrow Venous Limits NVL 160)
Record accurate and timely vital signs and treatment parameters on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet with initial identification
Accurately document patient treatment information, including Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes if applicable
Report significant information or changes in patient condition directly to nurse supervisor
