Responsibilities

  • Drive FMS culture through values and customer service standards; provide outstanding customer service to all external and internal customers
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships through effective and timely communication
  • Take initiative to respond, resolve, and follow up on customer service issues
  • Assist in providing patient-specific education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
  • Welcome assigned patients, inquire about well-being, and report complaints or observations to nurse supervisor
  • Evaluate vascular access for patency pre-treatment and report unusual findings to nurse supervisor
  • Obtain necessary pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weight; report unusual findings to nurse supervisor
  • Perform vascular access cannulation and report difficulties or unusual findings to nurse supervisor
  • Perform administration of Heparin as delegated or allowed by state law
  • Initiate dialysis treatment per prescribed orders (blood flow QB, dialysate flow QD)
  • Evaluate intradialytic problems and provide intervention as prescribed or directed
  • Monitor patients' response to dialysis therapy and report unusual findings to nurse supervisor
  • Obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion; perform functions for treatment discontinuation and document
  • Discontinue dialysis treatment per procedures; evaluate patient prior to termination of venous access (standing/sitting BP)
  • Obtain hemostasis and apply appropriate dressings
  • Evaluate patient prior to discharge and report unusual findings to nurse supervisor
  • Perform and record pre- and post-dialysis evaluation, weight, and vital signs with initial identification
  • Calculate and enter individual patients' dialysis machine programming (UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, UF modeling)
  • Ensure appropriate safety alarms are enabled (e.g., Narrow Venous Limits NVL 160)
  • Record accurate and timely vital signs and treatment parameters on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet with initial identification
  • Accurately document patient treatment information, including Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes if applicable
  • Report significant information or changes in patient condition directly to nurse supervisor
  • Observe patients (incomplete in description, but implied ongoing monitoring)
