Requirements

No dialysis specific experience required (comprehensive on-the-job training provided)
Ability to function under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
Compliance with organization policies, procedures, training, and state/federal regulations
Ability to perform vascular access cannulation and heparin administration as delegated or allowed by state law

Responsibilities

Assist in patient education on adequacy measures (e.g., OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
Welcome patients, inquire about wellbeing, and evaluate vascular access for patency
Obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs, weight, and perform vascular access evaluation
Initiate, monitor, and discontinue dialysis treatments per prescribed orders (including QB, QD, UF goal, treatment time, UF modeling)
Evaluate intradialytic problems, provide interventions as prescribed, and monitor patient response
Ensure safety alarms are enabled (e.g., Narrow Venous Limits at 160)
Record accurate vital signs, treatment parameters, and evaluations on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes
Report significant patient information/changes or unusual findings to registered nurse or supervisor
Perform and document machine safety checks and interventions for unusual patient status
Monitor vascular access (arterial/venous pressures) during treatment and provide interventions
Obtain prescribed laboratory testing and prepare specimens
Clean blood spills with appropriate disinfectant
Prepare, organize, and utilize supplies/equipment efficiently to prevent wastage
Setup and operate hemodialysis machines
Assist in maintaining a safe and clean working environment
Support Quality Enhancement Program (QEP), CQI activities, patient satisfaction, and process improvements
