Requirements

Functions under direct supervision of a licensed nurse in accordance with organization policies, procedures, training, and state/federal regulations
Knowledge of dialysis therapy, including adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM), disease process/access, vascular access evaluation, cannulation, heparin administration (as delegated or allowed by state law)
Ability to perform vital signs, weights, machine setup/operation/programming (UF goal, treatment time, UF modeling, safety alarms like NVL 160), intradialytic monitoring/interventions, treatment initiation/discontinuation, hemostasis, dressings
Skills in documentation (Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet, progress notes), machine safety checks, lab specimen preparation, blood spill cleanup, supply/equipment management
Participation in Quality Enhancement Program (QEP), CQI activities, process improvements, patient satisfaction initiatives
Ability to monitor self-care patients under RN supervision and assist as applicable

Responsibilities

Assist in patient education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
Welcome patients, inquire about wellbeing, evaluate vascular access pre-treatment, obtain pre/post vital signs and weights
Perform vascular access cannulation and heparin administration as delegated
Initiate, monitor, and discontinue dialysis treatments per orders (QB, QD, UF programming, alarms)
Evaluate intradialytic issues, provide interventions per physician/RN direction, monitor patient response
Perform pre/post dialysis evaluations, record vital signs, weights, treatment parameters with initial identification
Ensure accurate documentation of treatments, report significant changes/unusual findings to RN/supervisor
Conduct machine safety checks, intervene for unusual patient status, document responses
Monitor vascular access during treatment (arterial/venous pressures), provide interventions, report issues
Obtain prescribed lab testing, prepare specimens, clean blood spills per policy
Prepare/organize supplies/equipment efficiently, prevent wastage
Monitor patients performing self-care under RN supervision, assist as applicable
Participate in recruitment process
Maintain safe/clean working environment, support QEP/CQI activities and process improvements
