Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Entry-level position; dialysis experience not required (will train)
  • Ability to perform under direction of Clinical Manager, Educator, Preceptor, or higher CAP RN levels for first 6 months
  • Expected to complete requirements to advance to next CAP level within 24 months from hire
  • Physical ability to meet demands of patient care, including ongoing data collection, assessments, and emergency responses

Responsibilities

  • Perform ongoing, systematic collection and analysis of patient data pre-during-post hemodialysis treatment, document in medical record, adjust treatment plan, and notify appropriate staff/physician as needed
  • Recognize and report variations from normal patient status and collaborate with health team members
  • Assess daily patient care needs and collaborate with direct and ancillary staff to provide safe and effective chronic hemodialysis therapy
  • Administer medications as prescribed or per approved algorithms, with documentation
  • Ensure correct laboratory collection, processing, shipping, and rescheduling as needed
  • Enter and acknowledge physician orders in the medical record
  • Initiate or assist with emergency response measures
  • Delegate tasks to direct patient care staff (e.g., LVN/LPNs, Patient Care Technicians) and monitor adherence to policies
  • Promote infection control, equipment, and environmental safety
  • Assess, document, and provide initial/ongoing education to patients and families on learning needs, transplant/treatment options, in collaboration with Interdisciplinary Team
  • Make referrals to Social Worker and Registered Dietitian as appropriate
  • Check availability of emergency equipment and supplies
  • Assist with medication tracking and inventory
  • Serve as resource for health care team, participate in staff training and orientation
  • Participate in required staff meetings
  • Support FMCNA's mission, vision, values, and customer service philosophy
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor
